Magazine toy design - A first year project

This was the final main project that I did in my first year at De Montfort, I was given the task of designing a childs toy for the front of a magazine. After a large number of different ideas, I ended up focusing on the idea of a sycamore seed style toy for children to play with outside. The concept was that the spinning toy would have an actual seed connected to it and when they finish playing, the toy can be left outside where it will decompose and let the seed grow into a new plant. There was also a competitive element built in where the child had to decide on the correct shaped weight and wing type to use to get it to go the highest and the furthest.

To get this competitive element to work I had to do a variety of different tests and experiments to see which type of paper spinners, launchers and weights would be the best to supply in the magazine.
